These are springing up in all denominations all over the nation. They are all about church growth at any cost. While we were in Springfield, Missouri, we watched as about 40 major denominational and pentecostal churches turned in that direction. Almost all have adopted The Purpose Driven Life as their "guidebook". They are into many things, including unity, finding your "spiritual gift", cell groups; G-12 (govt of 12) groups, and much more.

Tithing
Article Summary Follows:
A study of the scriptures show that TITHING in the Old Testament was a mandatory "tax" or "levy" to be paid to the Levites as their income AND to help out the poor. TITHES were not used to build the Tent of Meetings or the Tabernacle. Money for the "church" structures were obtained by voluntary, free-will GIFTS.
Nowhere in the Bible are the New Testament believers (those from and after Acts 2:4) told to pay TITHES - nor do they do so.
Nowhere in the Bible is it even SUGGESTED or IMPLIED that New Testament believers must pay the Jewish, Old Testament tithe. All believers are to give to God's work, but freely, as offerings.
See 2 Corinthians Chapter 9.
The New Testament is VERY CLEAR, especially in Paul's writings, that we are to give, Give, GIVE. But Paul never mentions the "tithe". Don't you think it strange that if "tithing" were required today that Paul would not have mentioned it in his writings even ONCE????
Voluntary, non-mandatory GIVING is "New Testament" and VERY VERY scriptural for every born-again Christian! The Biblical examples of New Testament GIVING are found at Acts Chapters 2-6 and 2 Corinthians Chapter 9. Notice, it is all VOLUNTARY, as the Lord leads.
AND . . . the Lord WILL lead EVERY believer to GIVE - to the poor, to godly ministries, to missions, AND to his local church. Why do pastors fight "voluntary giving" as opposed to tithing? Because they want their flock to pay a mandatory "First Tenth" into the church offering - irrespective of what the Lord might lead you to do. (It is GREAT to give your local church a 10% or more OFFERING if the Lord so LEADS you. It is NOT GREAT if you do so under compulsion because you think you HAVE TO - you have gone back under the LAW. ) Many pastors go as far as telling their people they are under a "curse" if they do not tithe ! ! ! This is blatant, manipulative, false doctrine which has placed many under bondage and condemnation.
If you truly believe tithing is "scriptural" and for today, FIRST: we challenge you to find even one instance in the New Testament where born-again Christians are commanded to "tithe" and then write to us so that we may be enlightened. After all, we are only after the TRUTH. SECOND, please read our 45 page Bible Study (containing MANY scriptures on the subject. And again, if you find ANY scriptural error, then please write us and so enlighten us. THIRD, pray and ask the Lord to open your eyes to the truth.
Does your church teach that if you do not "tithe" God will not bless you? Does your pastor
teach that if you do not "tithe" you are even under a curse? Does your church require payment of a 10% Tithe as a condition of membership? (Believe it or not, many do - some even require "proof" in the form of seeing your pay stub or tax return!) All of this is unscriptural.
New Testament principles of GIVING are "from the heart", freely, out of love. Don't be mislead by false teachings which put you back under the law. (the Bible is clear that if you try to justify yourself by "obeying the law" you ARE under a curse). Instead, learn of God's grace, and then GIVE out of a cheerful heart, in love, not out of compulsion, fear, or condemnation!

I would like very much to share a number of things with you and your ministry. God delivered me from a cultish-church sometime last year - I was in bondage to a man that labeled himself a pastor. Before I came to this cultish-church, I knew the Word of God, but there were areas that I did not know and it almost cost me.
In these last days, it is IMPERATIVE to have the Gift of Discernment flowing- for the spirit of deception hovers all over the world, and including many churches.
I RESPECT and LOVE your website that exposes the truth about false teachings, false doctrine, etc. When God helped me to escape the cultish-church, I did a lot more studying and found out that there were quite a few things I did not know. (For instance:) When I was under the cultish pastor and his cult church, he told me that I was CURSED for not tithing. . . . At the time, I did not know the truth about tithing ... (but now I see the truth).

[A Note of explanation regarding the above email. Back when "The Passion of the Christ" was first released, we were in Springfield MO. We passed out several hundred copies of an earlier version of our gospel booklet entitled The Gospel of Jesus Christ -- You Better Believe It! outside a Missouri theater there, and this lady says she received one.]
Sister, thank you for your email. If by the term "Pentecostal" you mean "of the APC Apostolic Pentecostal Church" (the "Jesus Only" religion) , the answer is "NO".
If you mean, have we experienced and do we teach and practice what the early church did on the day of Pentecost and thereafter (as set out in the book of Acts) the answer is "YES". We have experienced the Baptism in the Holy Ghost, as evidenced by the speaking in tongues as the initial evidence; we have experienced the wonderful anointing of the Holy Spirit as it pertains to the administration of the Spiritual Gifts, the prayer of faith for the sick, and as otherwise set out in the scriptures. We believe that the focus of our faith must be Jesus Christ and what He accomplished at the Cross, both for our forgiveness and our sanctification. Not by works, lest any man boast, but by God's grace, through faith. Please check out the ministries linked on our website, as you will find sound, biblical teaching in each of them.
As to the booklet you received at the theater, please read the next letter and my reply as to a "retraction" of something I said on the first page of that booklet.

What about "The Passion of the Christ" movie? Was it scriptural? Was it "of God"? Is it something you believe it was beneficial to either the unsaved or the lost if they watched it? Your brother in Christ, (name withheld)
Reply: Brother, at the time the movie came out, I viewed it and initially concluded that it "preached the true gospel" and would be beneficial for everyone to see. I was wrong. I will explain below. My wife and I printed up several hundred copies of a special version of our gospel booklet, The Gospel of Jesus Christ -- You Better Believe It!, and for a week we stood outside a Springfield MO movie theater and passed them out to those exiting the movie. Many of the patrons left the theater deeply touched and weeping, and almost everyone gratefully welcomed our presence and the receipt of our booklet. The "special version" booklet contained a comment on the first page that we believed the movie to be "scriptural" and profitable in leading a lost soul to salvation. However, within a short time thereafter, the Lord clearly showed us that the movie was deceptively unscriptural and NOT in any way inspired of God. It contained many subtle Roman Catholic overtones, superstitions, and heresies which I overlooked at first. REPLY: Sir, as to other religions, Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the light, and NO ONE comes to the Father except through me". And the Bible says at Acts 4:12 that "Salvation is found in no one else [except Jesus], for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” [NO OTHER NAME - not Allah, not Muhammad, not Mary, not "higher power" not "the man upstairs].
You stated that you are a "good person" and therefore I presume you mean that you believe God will accept you into heaven as you are????]
As to whether you are a good person, why don't you take a moment and compare yourself to what Bible says about you. Are you acquainted with the Ten Commandments? Have you ever told a lie? Even a small white lie? Have you ever hated anyone? Jesus said that anyone who hates someone is a murderer at heart. Have you ever stolen anything, even something small, or cheated on your taxes? Have you ever lusted after a woman in your heart? Jesus said that if a man lusts after a woman in his heart, that makes him an adulterer. Have you ever taken the Lord's name in vain? Did you do that the email you sent me?
So, decide for yourself. Have you broken each of God's Ten Commandments? If so, what does that make you? A liar? A murderer? A thief? An adulterer? A blasphemer? You decide for yourself.
So, on the day of God's Judgment, will He find you guilty or not guilty of breaking His commandments? The Bible says His wrath abides on those who have sinned against Him (John 3:36), and that those who break His commandments are an “enemy of God in your mind through your wicked works,” (Colossi ans 1:21)
Perhaps you think God is good and because of His goodness He will overlook your sins? But if you knew of a human judge who turned a blind eye to the crimes of a guilty rapist…would you describe him as a “good” judge? No. That would be a corrupt judge. God could never be a corrupt judge.
The Bible clearly says that God will eternally punish all who have sinned against Him, and that He will punish all liars, the lustful. adulterers, idolaters, and blasphemers, (Revelation 21:8).
The Bible clearly states that the place of eternal punishment is Hell.
God does not want you to perish. He is rich in mercy and compassion, and has provided a way for you to be forgiven. He has invited you to come to Him for a full pardon and receive the free gift of Eternal Life. You cannot earn it, and you do not deserve it, but God is offering it to you as proof of His love for you.
Imagine you are standing in front of a judge, guilty of multiple serious crimes. All the evidence has been presented and there is no doubt about your guilt. Your apologies and good works cannot erase your crimes; therefore you must be punished. The fine for your crime is $250,000 or imprisonment, but you don’t have two pennies to rub together. The judge is about to pass sentence when someone you don’t even know steps in and pays your fine for you! The court accepts the money and declares that you are free to go. The law has been satisfied, your debt has been paid in full, and the stranger’s sacrifice was a demonstration of his love for you.
THAT IS WHAT GOD DID FOR YOU OVER 2000 YEARS AGO! The Bible says that the God of the Universe became a man (Jesus Christ), and suffered and died on the cross for your sins and mine so that we could be set free. It’s as simple as this – we broke the Law, and Jesus paid our fine.
“God demonstrated His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8. “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, being made a curse for us.”
Galatians 3:13.
Do you see God’s great love for you? Do you see your need for His forgiveness?
IF YOU confess Then do what He commands and “Repent…that your sins may be wiped out and times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” (Acts 3:19) You must turn away from sin and turn to God. Desire to have NOTHING to do with sin, and surrender your life to the One who can save you. Jesus died to set you free, and then he rose from death to be your Lord. Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” If you will confess and forsake your sins (repent) and trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, God will forgive you and you’ll pass from death to life.

What does it mean to “put your faith in Jesus Christ”?
It means to personally trust in Jesus the same way you’d trust in a parachute if you had to jump 25,000 feet out of an airplane. You would not just “believe” in the parachute; you would put it on! In the same way, the Bible says, “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ…” and you will be saved. There are millions of people who “believe” Jesus exists…but they have not ‘put on’ the Savior. There’s a BIG difference. And the difference will be obvious when you ‘jump’ through the door of death.
Today, with all your heart – turn away from sin, and surrender your life to Jesus Christ. Please don’t put it off until later. You may die today and then it will be too late. You may not yet have all the answers to your questions, but better to put on the parachute first and then ask questions, than to pass through the door unprepared, grasping for the parachute when it’s too late.
You can pray something like this –
“Dear God, today I turn from all my sins (name them), and I put my trust in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Please forgive me, and grant me your gift of everlasting life. Amen” There is nothing magic about these words – it is the attitude of your heart that God cares about.
God will transform you from the inside out. You will think and feel differently as you learn to trust and obey Him. God will give you new strength to live right and love Him above all else. Read your Bible daily and obey His Word. You can trust God – He loves you and He will always be faithful.
Sir, I hope the above helps you understand why we have our ministry and our website. 2nd Corinthians 5:11 says it well: "Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience." In other words, we fear God, because He is real, His Commandments are real, His Judgment is real, and Hell is real. And we fear God, that He means what He says, that those who refuse to repent, turn from their sins, and seek God for His forgiveness and salvation through Jesus Christ will some day EXPERIENCE His Judgment and the lake of fire.
